Cabinetry Care

Your cabinets are more than just storage; they’re an integral part of your home’s design and functionality. To ensure they maintain their beauty and serve you well for years, regular care and proper maintenance are essential. Here is a comprehensive guide to keep your cabinets looking pristine:

BASIC CARE

·   Dust them periodically using a soft lint-free cloth. A cloth dampened with warm water should remove most dirt and grime. Wipe all surfaces dry with a clean cloth.

·   For extra grime, a mild detergent solution can be prepared using any common dishwashing liquid or specially formulated cleaner designed for fine furniture and cabinetry.  Wipe all surfaces dry after cleaning.

·   Your cabinets don’t require waxing, and we don’t recommend it. Over time, waxing and polishing compounds may build up on cabinet surfaces forming a hazy, streaked or yellowed appearance. Use of polishes may hinder any recoating or touch ups.

BEST PRACTICES

·  Immediately wipe all spills and standing water, then dry thoroughly. Don’t drape damp dishtowels or clothes over wood surfaces. Prolonged exposure to food, water and other liquids (grease, oil, etc.) can cause permanent damage or discolor to your cabinet’s finish.

·   Wood will expand and contract based upon the amount of moisture in the home. Maintaining a consistent temperature and humidity level is key to cabinet health. Please refer to our Climate Condition disclaimer for further details.

·   As seasons change, doors and drawer fronts may need to be adjusted. Proper alignment can prevent further damage. The touch up kit contains QR codes with links to video demonstrations.

·   Avoid placing small appliances where heat is directed onto the wood surface. Minimize the risk of cabinet damage by removing cabinet doors and drawers closest to the oven before using the self-cleaning feature.

·   Direct sunlight tends to darken the color of natural wood products, with the exception of walnut, which will lighten. Painted surfaces and laminates are also susceptible to fading or discoloration. Draperies or blinds are the best defense to shield cabinetry from direction sunlight.

PRODUCTS TO AVOID

·   Do not use harsh detergents, strong soaps, multi-purpose and abrasive cleaning productions.

·   Avoid cleaning with a dishcloth or sponge, as it may contain remnants of grease or detergents.

·   Never use scouring pads, steel wool or scouring powders.

·   Avoid solvent based or petroleum-based products such as mineral spirits, nail-polish removers or paint thinners. Avoid silicone-based cleaning, waxing or polishing products.

·   Do not use cleaning products that contain either ammonia or bleach.
